First Cavity

Hudson, checking out the stickers they gave hime
Watching a movie

Having "silly air"

I had no idea a 5 year old could have a cavity. I didn't have my first cavity until I was 29 years old! Seriously!!

I noticed a brown spot on Hudson's back tooth and after lots of intense brushing and flossing, it obviously wasn't food. We went to see the local Pediatric dentist and my suspicions were right only we have TWO cavities instead of one. I felt like the biggest failure; as the person in charge of my kids' teeth. And...a little embarrassed. As if I don't care about my son's hygiene. Well, I do have to admit that we don't always brush in the mornings. And...flossing a childs teeth is like trying to floss a moving target!!

So....all you new moms out there, don't let your kids take juice/milk to bed (even if they already brushed their teeth) AND always brush before going to preschool each day. Those are my "pearls of advice." Ok Catherine....I know you are flipping out right now, thinking about kids having juice right before bed(she's a dentist). So...learn from my experience and brush those teeth!!!

Oh, and Hud had a great time btw. He wanted to know what every single instrument was an tried to talk to Dr. Kenny the whole time. The Dr. just looked at me like,"OMG, he talks sooo much." He said, "I bet there's never a dull moment at your house." Crack me up...he could tell that by being with Hudson for 15 mins. Sooo right on!! Oh and they had TV's in the ceiling so he watched movies during the whole thing....BRILLIANT!! Now, let's see how it goes taking little brother in a couple of months.

so proud of you girl!!
and you are NOT a failure!!!!
i'd say 99% of kids i see have at least 1 cavity.
and i KNOW they aren't all bad parents!
i'm glad it went well.

I second Pennie's thoughts. So many parents are exactly like you. We never had cavities that young, but we didn't drink as much juice or eat the same snacks. And, btw, bottled water usually does not have fluoride in it. As your kids get older, watch the sodas. I've had to do fillings on every single tooth in a kid's mouth because they drink 3 cans of Dr. Pepper every day. The acid and the sugar eat your teeth away...imagine what it's doing to your kidneys, bones, etc. Good job for Hudson! Brave patient!
